Gaute provides seasoned advice on substantial losses under various insurance policies, including construction and operational policies, all-risks covers, reinsurance, and general coverage disputes. His advisory role extends to significant onshore and offshore claims, where he serves London-based and international insurers. Additionally, his experience covers claims under hull and machinery covers, mortgagee's interest insurance, war risks, loss of hire, cargo, charterers' liability, general liability, and Protection and Indemnity (P&I) policies, supporting both Nordic and international insurers.

Gaute's extensive experience in litigation includes representing clients before Norwegian courts and in arbitration proceedings, and he is admitted to the Norwegian Supreme Court.

He has also assisted insurers and owners in significant marine accidents in Norwegian Waters, i.a. the grounding and capsizing of MV "Rocknes", capsizing and loss of anchor handler "Bourbon Dolphin", fire and salvage of oil tanker "Fjord Champion", fire and flooding of Coastal Steamer "Nordlys", and grounding and loss of MV "Server".
